Episode 19: A Few Last Words

This is Ophelie here, apologizing profusely for the delay in getting this show up. I may have recently gotten sucked into a very entertaining video game and refused to do anything until I beat it…

We actually recorded this show a few weeks ago, shortly after your humble and gracious hosts finished their raid progression through Dragon Soul and, at the same time, Cataclysm. As we turn the last page on this expansion, we reflect on the encounters we faced, what we thought of them, and how we approached them.

Our friend Kelesti joined us, accepting a last minute invitation to give a 10s perspective on Cataclysm. Except that we didn’t tell her we were looking for a 10 man perspective. You can hear the shock in my voice when we discover, mid-recording that she’s a 25 man raider, just like us.

This is likely the last episode of the Double O Podcast as we know it (though you wouldn’t be able to tell by the episode – we didn’t make this decision until a couple of days ago, long after the recording). It’s been a blast and we want to thank everyone who has supported the show, listened to us, encouraged us, left us comments, left us reviews, and linked to us through the course of this adventure.

Personally, I am not able to invest myself in the online community to the same extent anymore, but Oestrus is still going strong. If you would like to get in touch with her regarding potential or future projects (or even another podcast), you can find her contact info on our contact page, or on her blog.

Episode 17: Animal Attraction

When we saw Stubborn‘s series on couples and gaming, right away we thought “What a great show idea!”. A few e-mails and a Skype phone call later and we were recording this episode with none other than Stubborn himself.

We spend this episode delving into Stubborn’s posts, discussing tips for gaming couples, couple archetypes, and how to deal with different relationship dynamics in a guild or raid setting. And, of course, we take the time to share what we have been up to these past few weeks, our latest gaming adventures and, yes, our backup plans for BlizzCon.

As a side note, as I was editing the show, I was pretty amused to hear myself rant about the single gamer’s perspective of couples, when very shortly after recording, I suddenly became not-so-single. (Which also had a lot to do with the delay in getting this episode out!)

Episode 14: Behind the Guild

Welcome to our new website!

We have our own fancy domain now and hosting, courtesy of Jadissa. (I think that qualifies him as a sponsor, right?)

This episode finds O and I in our natural habitat (we’re finding that we really enjoy these easy, laid back shows) talking about what’s going on in our WoW lives.  We’re both experiencing changes within our guilds, so we explore the inner workings of a guild, the dynamics of 25 man vs 10 man casual raiding, discuss which is the bigger evil between “I don’t like the person people but the sex raiding is good” and its opposite, and share the frustrations of trying to find a guild when you’re a good player, but lacking a strong raiding resume.

Enjoy!

Episode 13: The Write Stuff

After a month long hiatus, where we shook off the dust from BlizzCon and Ophelie recovered from another leg of the Bossy Pally Bus Tour, we are back with Episode 13!

The idea for this episode came directly from one of our listeners, @FFPMMarc, who suggested that we make an episode about people who are new to blogging and what they should know before they get started.  Ophelie and I start off by talking about what blogging platforms we prefer (i.e. Blogger or WordPress), what are some good or bad reasons to decide to start blogging, how to promote your blog and the importance of Twitter, habits of other bloggers that really annoy us, and the highs and lows of collaborative blogging.

Plus, we sprinkle in a little chat about what we’re currently up to in our lives, our recent review on iTunes, and some big plans that Ophelie and I have for the podcast and our website!

As mentioned, we are available on iTunes, for free, 24 hours a day.  Feel free to subscribe to the show, download our most recent episodes, and leave a review.  We love hearing from our listeners and look forward to reading more of your comments and seeing more of your suggestions for us.

Thanks for listening!

Episode 5: What A Long Strange Trip It’s Been

We (hopefully) ease ourselves back into something that may, perhaps, resemble a regular recording schedule. Blame me and my erratic life!

Oestrus and I talk about our time together in Milwaukee, including our hair washing habits and how the first thing I did when I reached her place was shed my clothes. Yes folks, she’s that good. At least her shower is to someone who just spent three days on a Greyhound.

I go on quite a bit about my trip, offer some insight into the World of Backpacking (WoB), and, so that it has some sort of a connection with WoW, I share some secrets about the wonderful gaming friends I got to see face-to-face. If, at any point you wonder who I’m talking about, here are links to the bloggers that I met:

Fannon
Corath (who didn’t come up in conversation as the meetup was very short, but still a very cool guy!)
Vidyala
Vosskah
Thespius (and fellow guildie Arcas, follow him on Twitter!)
Apple

We then wrap up 4.1, talk about our experiences during this tier of content and brace ourselves for the excitement of 4.2.

Episode 4: Cyn, Lose or Draw

We’re back and longer than ever!

After a brief hiatus, in which Ophelie graduated from college and I got promoted at work, we return with the help of the incomparable Cynwise, from Cynwise’s Battlefield Manual.

The three of us start off by talking about recent news and our plans for 4.2 and BlizzCon, then we delve into all things PVP.  We talk about our own experiences, Blizzard’s neverending struggle to balance PVP with PVE, the rivalry that seems to exist between the two types of players and how you too can become a PVP machine.

We top off this special hour and forty-five minute episode by talking about the presence of women in PVP and whether they’re really as underrepresented as they seem.

Don’t forget – you can always listen to and subscribe to the Double O podcast for free on iTunes!  Feel free to leave us a rating or a review, while you’re at it!

So you think you want to be a guest host?

If so, we would love to have you!  Do you have something on your mind that you would like to hear us talk about or that you’re an expert on?  Shoot us an e-mail or send us a Tweet and tell us all about it.  We are certainly open to any and all ideas, so please send them our way.

Episode 3: Getting Down To Business

This week (or should I say “this episode” since we record bi-weekly) we’re thrilled to welcome Codi, former paladin theorycrafter from Moar HPS! and all around super fun person.

We get into the business side of gaming as we talk about the state of Blizzard’s subscriber count and the more prominent issue of online privacy and security (inspired, of course, by the recent Sony debacle as well as Trion’s efforts and Blizzard’s own Real ID fiasco). Our business heads Codi and Oestrus also teach me a few things about targeting an audience and marketing strategies that may be shocking in the progressive sense and the less progressive sense.

We also establish that if Oestrus were a booth babe, I would totally take a picture with her so I can Sin to Win.

iTunes!

You can now get your Double O fix on iTunes! You can also leave us reviews, ratings and all that good stuff!

Got a WoW Topic you’d like to talk about?

A few people expressed some interest in hanging out with us for an episode. We love getting new ideas and hearing new voices, so we’re very excited at the idea of having more guests on the show. Our episodes tends to be focused on a different, specific topic, so if there’s something you know a lot about and you would like to share that something, let us know!

Episode 1: What It Feels Like For A Girl

I was seriously tempted to rename the episode “How Horny Are You?,” based on events that occurred during yesterday’s recording.

Errm.

Moving On.

In this episode, we use an article from Kotaku, “I’m An Anonymous Woman Gamer,” as a starting point to chat about our experiences and opinions surrounding our own condition of being female gamers.

Of course, men are more than welcome to listen as well, and we even offer some suggestions to singletons looking to find a WoW playing soulmate.

This week’s “Thank You” goes out to Fimlys, who saved the day (or night) when the Technology Gods turned against me during the editing process. If you’re listening to a podcast with intro and outro music and a distinct lack of awkward silences, it’s all thanks to him!

On the next episode, as mentioned on the show, we’ll be talking about gaming schedules and gaming addictions with the lovely Lady Erinia from Moments in the Life of a Death Knight as our special guest host.

Enjoy!
